Exhibition History"A Way of Reasoning on Paper," The Art of Saul Steinberg, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, Missouri. April 18 - December 3, 2023.
Steinberg's enduring fascination with baseball began in 1954 when LIFE magazine commissioned him to travel with the Milwaukee Braves (now Brewers). He described baseball as a "poetic, complex and subtle play of courage, good luck, mistakes, patience" -- simultaneously a metaphor for what it takes to succeed in the United States and as an artist.
