DescriptionThis doll portrays a fearless warrior with an intense facial expression. The warrior’s possible identity includes a warrior-monk Benkei (died 1189). His face is squarish and coated with pigmented gofun. He has furrowed eyebrows and inset glass eyes. He wears clothes made of silk brocade and lacquered paper armor with metal bosses, silk lacing, thick belt covered with dark blue silk. He holds a battle fan, arrow quiver, and bow.
