DescriptionThis doll portrays Minamoto Yoshiie (also called Hachiman Tarō; 1039–1106). The warrior is mounted on a black horse, and he holds a bow in his left hand. Yosiie’s face is oval and white, and his facial expression is stern. He has long, untied black hair and wears a helmet with a dragon ornament in the center. His clothes are made of brocaded silk, and his armor is joined by red and black silk lacings. He holds a quiver with arrows on his back and has a long sword and a bow. He is dressed in layers of clothes made of silk fabric and wears a suit of armor. The horse’s body is covered with coarse, black fiber, and it is adorned with ceremonial horse gears made of different materials, including lacquered stirrups. The horse’s hooves are tied to the black, lacquered base with silk lacings.
