A leading photographer of the Pictorialist era, Clarence White created a subtle and elegant body of work from the simplest of subjects.  His artistic vision, derived largely from an appreciation for the art of Whistler and Japanese prints, transformed commonplace domestic activities into visual poetry. Through his eyes, the entire world became a kind of enchanted garden far removed from the complications of modern life.
