DescriptionSoftly focused image of man's face; his hair is parted on the side and he looks directly at the viewer.Gallery LabelClarence White was a leading figure in turn-of-the-century Pictorialism, a movement characterized by highly subjective, artistic images. White created a subtle and elegant body of work from the simplest of subjects. His artistic vision, derived in part from an appreciation for Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art and Japanese prints, transformed commonplace domestic scenes into visual poetry. Through the lens of White’s camera, the world became a kind of enchanted realm far removed from the complications of modern life.
