As an educator and artist, Clarence Hudson White had an enormous impact on art photography in the early 1900s in the United States. He taught a generation of talented young photographers. White championed finely crafted, soft-focus photography and emphasized graphic design principles, as in this image, where perspective and cropping work to balance realism and abstraction.
