DescriptionPortrait of a man (John Greenleaf Whittier) wearing a coat with large fabric-covered buttons. This half plate cased daguerreotyped is housed in an octagonal brass mat inside of a brown leather case adorned with a medallion and lillies motif and some blind tooling outlining the medallion. Embossed along the fore-edge of the lid: "W & F LANGENHEIM (starburst) PHILADELPHIA EXCHANGE." Inside the case is a deep maroon velvet liner and a dark brown paper lining.
