DescriptionBlue and green "floating" enamel on stamped decoration on exterior of bowl; cast and applied organic design elements from bowl to shaft.Gallery LabelThe sinuous, flowing bands of inlaid blue and green enamel that encircle this cup reflect the naturalistic qualities of the Art Nouveau style. The delicate, curvilinear branches sprouting from the cup's stem are characteristic of this organic style, popularized in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Also inspired by the interlaced patterns of Celtic design, the cup was part of Liberty & Company's Cymric line of silver sold by Arthur Liberty's retail venture that promoted good design and cost-lowering modern manufacturing. The cup's designer, Archibald Knox, was born on the Gaelic Isle of Man and was thus perfectly suited for the Cymric collection.
