To create her self-described "visual deceptions," Elbling constructs and paints architectural models of imaginary spaces. Controlling light and color to suggest depth, she photographs the model and matches the color of the frame to its contents. The representational quality of the photographic image merges with the presentation of the photograph as a three-dimensional object, challenging distinctions between photography, painting, and sculpture.
