DescriptionThe painting is rectilinear and vertical in orientation. It contains an ink drawing with some color, painted on a white ground and set within a heavy red border. The painting depicts a battle scene in which a stampeding elephant, shown lunging across the right side of the composition, crushes two soldiers and disembowels a horse. The palette is limited to black, white, red and blue, with touches of gold paint. The horizon and sky is indicated by curvy light grey ink washes running across the top of the composition.
