Timothy H. O’Sullivan: The King Survey Photographs. The Art Institute of Chicago, October 22, 2011 - January 15, 2012, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, April 7 - September 2, 2012, Brigham Young University Museum of Art, Provo, UT, January 23 - May 26, 2014, no. 63.
Continuing south, the survey reached Provo Canyon, where O'Sullivan photographed Provo Falls (now Bridal Veil Falls) and the adjacent limestone cliffs. The orientation of his frame reveals that O'Sullivan saw these as two distinctly different subjects. In his first view, O'Sullivan centers the waterfall and orients his frame to a horizontal plane. In the second view, he centers on the rock face and tilts his camera to better accommodate the towering limestone cliff.
