The mystery and austere beauty of Pyramid Lake clearly captured O'Sullivan's imagination. These formations-originally created by the release of minerals from hot springs deep under water-were created along a fault line. O'Sullivan emphasized this linear orientation by climbing to the top of one of the domes and photographing toward the larger Pyramid Island. The result is one of O'Sullivan's most iconic works-a photograph that is at once elegant and otherworldly.
