DescriptionThis is a polychrome ōban woodblock print. It portrays Kesa Gozen's story at the top and the image below. Kesa Gozen sits in front of a screen painting depicting flowers in Rinpa-style. She wears layers of white, red, and light blue robes. She holds a knife in her right hand, while she holds her lengthy, black hair up with her left hand. In front of her are a sheath and two pieces of blank paper. Behind the screen, a koto (string instrument) and a lacquered table are placed. A box closed with cords and a scroll are on the table. Above this scene is a story of Kesa Gozen, written by Ms. Uchida, in the handscroll-shaped cartouche.
