DescriptionThis is an original concept sketch for "Fan Dance". A female figure in motion occupies the center of the page. She is dressed in red from neck to mid-thigh with a broad stripe of white at her waist and hips and a broad strip of white across her upper chest and arms. Her hair is red with poufs out to each side. Her proper right eye is open and her proper left eye is shut, with a black triangle covering the proper left cheek. The impression of motion is given in several ways. Her head is tilted to the side with curling red lines on either side of it. Her breasts swing towards her proper left side. She has two proper left and two proper right arms. One proper left arm holds a red and white fan; the other three arms form separate gestures. Curving red lines around the hands suggest they are twirling. Eight legs are visible, two facing front and the others in various stages of kicking. One proper right foot holds another red and yellow fan between its toes. A curving plume of smoke appears above the figure and three tiny black airplanes trace red trails around the figure, adding to the motion.Provenance
