DescriptionThis doll portrays Minamoto Yoshitsune (1159–1189) seated on a wooden stool. He is dressed in layers of silk garments under a suit of armor, wears a helmet, and holds a sword, a baton (saihai), and an arrow quiver. The clothes are made of different kinds of brocaded or printed silk fabric. The suit of armor consists of protective panels made of thick gilded paper boards held by silk lacings. The helmet is made of thick gilded paper with ornaments rendering the sun, the moon, and a dragon. The sword is decorated with shark skin and silk fabric.
