DescriptionImage of man and woman seated together. The man wears a suit and looks towards the woman who wears a plaid dress with fur over her shoulders and a decorative bonnet which ties with a large bow under her chin. This sixth plate daguerreotype is housed in a case with a faux book motif. There is a leather covered spine and the lid and tray have a dark reddish black lacquered finish. The lid is embellished with gold pigment and hand painted floral motif over inlaid mother-of-pearl. The rails of the tray are covered with a gold leaf paper to look like the gilt edges of a bound textbook. The lid has a brilliant deep blue velvet covered cushion; the tray has aqua colored velvet covered retainers and a warm white paper liner. The case is closed with a brass clasp.
