DescriptionImage of a nicely dressed group (man, woman, four children) seated with arms around one another. This whole plate partially cased daguerreotype is housed in an oval brass mat inside of an embossed paper covered wooden tray with gold tooling around the perimeter.Exhibition HistoryRotation 25. This gracefully posed formal portrait, rendered as a large-format daguerreotype, exemplifies the talent and skill of Jeremiah Gurney. He operated one of New York City’s most elegant studios in the 1850s. As the fine clothing of this family suggests, Gurney attracted an elite clientele.
