DescriptionThis écorché, a figure showing the muscles of a flayed body, is made of white plaster and depicts a man in a contorted position. The figure's lower body is in a half-kneeling stance with his left leg making contact with the base of the statue. His right elbow is pressed against his right thigh. The open palm of his right hand supports his head that is craned to that side. His left arm arcs over his body to join his other hand in holding his head. The left elbow points upward as his left oblique stretches.Provenance

NOTES:

[1] Following Laurence Sickman's passing, an auction, silent auction, and estate sale, were held. It is believed, due to a note card in Pentecost's belongings, that this work was purchased by Pentecost at the estate sale that took place from October 29th to November 3rd, 1988. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Archives holds records of the objects auctioned (MSS013.04, Folder 3). This object could not be found in the papers.
