The robust profile of this coffee pot depicts the boldness of the Baroque style, while the dynamic scrolls of the floral motifs suggest the lightness of the Rococo.  This latter style was embraced by London silversmiths but was tempered with a restrained elegance particular to England.  Abraham Portal followed Paul de Lamerie, to whom he was apprenticed, in grounding vigorously decorated designs onto substantial forms.
