DescriptionThis vertically oriented painting is composed of a broad strokes of acrylic paint that have been applied to the canvas with a palette knife, rather than a brush. In some areas the red, blue, lilac, fuchsia, brown, white, black, and tan strokes are laid down next to each other and in other places (especially near the center of the lower third of the painting) they mix and blend. Together, the strokes create a human face that nearly fills the canvas. This face, made more recognizable by eyes near the top quarter of the canvas, is set against a deep purple background.ProvenancePurchased from Harold David Smith by The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, 2021.
