DescriptionSeries of images in a Muybridge-like grid, three rows of four images each, showing a person (partially out of frame) holding a large zucchini and proceeding to break it in half by hitting it against a sawhorse.Gallery LabelCabbages fly and engorged zucchini squash “encounter” the top of a sawhorse in the series Vegetable Locomotion. Hollis Frampton and Marion Faller take a slapstick approach to the history of photography and cinema with their choice of unlikely subjects for motion study. The series is a delightfully silly homage to photographer Eadweard Muybridge’s 1887 Animal Locomotion that presented horses, humans, and all manner of moving creatures. The grid background used in these photographs is also inspired by the one that appears in many of Muybridge’s images.
