DescriptionImage of a woman seated in a ticket booth which is covered in movie posters and a sign which reads "Joan Crawford". A row of lightbulbs line the top of the frame.Gallery LabelThis photograph of a young ticket-taker, surrounded by a veritable collage of idealized Hollywood imagery, conveys a sense of individual loneliness and anonymity. A restless and rebellious spirit, Robert Frank left his native Switzerland in 1947 for New York City. Working with a small 35mm camera in a quick and candid manner, Frank made entirely personal images. Like the Beat poets and jazz musicians of the time, he sought a raw, intuitive, and deeply human kind of expression.
