Description
This horizontally oriented painting shows a lively group of animals--four horses, two blue birds, and an owl--in a landscape setting. A large tree occupies the extreme left of the composition while one of the horses gallops off the edge to the right. The ground is covered with patches of bright flowers. The color is bright and somewhat non-naturalistic (the leaves on a fallen branch are red). Overall, pale blue dominates, comprising the expansive sky filled with soft white clouds and the fanciful horses, which appear under attack by the large owl.
