DescriptionThis vertically oriented black-and-white drawing features an arrangement of beaded Native American regalia. A beaded cloth drapes down the center of the image in three different panels. The panels to the left and right are nearly identical. Each starts with an elaborate radial design with a border in a lighter shade of beads and ribbon, followed by a cascading zig-zag design, then another radial design that features a circular hole surrounded by a sunburst and small “c” shaped symbols that go round the border. Another radial with a lighter colored border followed by the same sunburst radial design are cut off by the bottom of the image. The center panel of the beaded cloth is a larger radial design; there is what appears to be a gem in the center surrounded by a starburst design with eight triangles, abstracted figures of horses gallop in a circle around the starburst, and they are surrounded by a border of larger light-colored beads. Fringe hangs off the bottom edge of the large center panel, and the two panels to its side continue to drape past the fringe. The entire beaded cloth is on a dark backdrop that is shaped to frame the radial designs. Draped on top of the center panel is a kerchief folded to its corners, then in half so that two triangular forms seem to frame the large center circular design. Four pieces of ribbon sit to both the left and right sides of the kerchief. A string of jewels drapes down the right side of the image, between the kerchief and the ribbons. The string of jewels on the left side is not completely in the image.Exhibition HistoryJane Chu: 50 States: America & Beyond, Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art, Kansas City, Missouri, September 2–October 22, 2022, no. 42.
