DescriptionThis large mixed media painting is a horizontally oriented diptych that depicts a baby or baby doll and two adults in a bedroom. The panel on the left includes a bookshelf lined with thin books of various colors. A potted plant sits on top of the bookshelf with vines that fall downward off the side. A framed painting of flowers hangs on the wall to the right of the bookshelf. A partially opened window draped with brown curtains is to the right of the painting. Beneath the right side of the window’s curtain is what looks like a vent or radiator. At the bottom of the first panel’s composition is a piece of furniture that may be a sofa or bed with a crimson-colored covering and a lacey shawl on its edge. A baby or baby doll with brown skin sits on the sofa or bed. The child’s head covering and clothing are a very similar crimson as the furniture on which it sits. In the panel to the left, two people in yellow dresses stand smiling and looking out at the viewer. Both people have short black afro hairstyles, brown skin, and circular earrings. They stand to the right of the bed. The person to the left has fairer skin and large red hoop earrings. The person to the right has darker skin, slightly smaller gold disk earrings, and is wearing white sandals. There is a small photograph of the face of the figure on the right near the painted face of this figure. To the bottom right of the standing figures is a dresser on top of which are cups and bottles of various colors and sizes. Behind the dresser is another window, also partially open with brown drapes. Random numbers and letters are scattered throughout the composition.Exhibition History
