Gallery LabelLike many artists before him, James McBey took beautiful Venice, Italy, as his subject. In the foreground, people stroll along Riva Degli Schiavoni, one of the most famous walkways of the city. At the end of the promenade, to the right of the sculpture of the horse and rider, is the equally renowned Doge's Palace. The artist utilized sketchy brushwork to suggest the domed cathedral of Santa Maria della Salute across the Grand Canal. Long shadows cast by pedestrians and the pale pinks and blues capture the essence of Venetian light.
