Gallery LabelWang Yuanqi once viewed a painting in a friend’s home by Huang Gongwang (1269–1354), who was known for his relaxed ink brushwork. Wang then created this painting inspired by Huang but infused with a more colorful dimension than Huang’s ink style (pictured below.) By boosting the scene with light blue, green, and beige, Wang transformed the early painting into his own version of a tranquil retreat.
