DescriptionVery low, broad, wheel-thrown platter with edged lip. Interior and exterior glazed shiny black. Terra cotta-colored slip on bottom of platter within circle described by foot of platter. Interior decoration: two undulating entwined rattlesnakes in greens, blues, brown, tan and white with scale pattern. Head of one snake is blue, russet, mustard, black and green; rattle is mustard, white, and cobalt blue in diagonal sections. Head of other snake is white, cobalt, russet, green and black; rattle is green and mauve in diagonal sections.Gallery LabelVictor Babu has long been fascinated by Asian art. He embraces motifs of creatures and plants from the natural world, like those found in Asian ceramic and lacquer works. Rendered in brilliantly colored glazes the snakes on the charger are a composition of writhing color and pattern.
