Gallery LabelWatercolor was a medium for personal fulfillment for William Stanley Haseltine. He never attempted to promote his watercolors during his career. Although known for his oil on canvas paintings, Haseltine frequently used watercolor to document landscapes while traveling that he later used for inspiration. During these trips, he sketched outdoor scenes in watercolor. He then returned to his studio to create compositions in oil. Northeast Harbor, Maine is one such watercolor landscape made using shortened brushwork and a limited palette of greens, blues, browns, and yellows. These works are often on the blue textured paper seen here.
