Gallery LabelWilbur Niewald's name is synonymous with both Kansas City and cityscapes, such as this far-off view of the West Bottoms from the historic Quality Hill neighborhood west of downtown. Niewald explained that one of the reasons he was attracted to distant vistas is because that perspective enabled him "to avoid dealing with incidentals."
Compare Niewald's approach to making art inspired by Kansas City to that of other artists in this exhibition. Do you prefer a faraway skyline view or a street-level scene filled with details? Which style feels more "Kansas City" to you?
