Gallery LabelWhen Medicine Lodge, Kansas, native Dr. Nelson McCleary traveled abroad for post-graduate study in medicine, his exposure to Europe's museums rekindled a childhood interest in art. After a stint as an illustrator for The Kansas City Star, he returned to Europe to pursue art full time in and around the cultural centers of Paris, London and Rome.
McCleary enlivened this depiction of a rustic Tuscan manor with charming details described with a miniaturist's precision. Dimora Singorile, Toscana reflects his dedication to traditional watercolor techniques and fascination with picturesque, Old World subjects at a time when many of his contemporaries were engaged with more innovative styles and modern themes.
