DescriptionWood sculpture of the Buddhist deity Benzaiten by the sculptor Issai; carved in "hinoki" wood in a manner derived from the master Enku (1632-1695) in which the natural shape and grain of the wood is abstractly imcorporated in the overall composition, allowing the rich burl patterns to form elements of drapery; and with the artist's seal impressed in the back.
