Gallery LabelThis print by Anthony van Dyck and those of Jan Brueghel and Justus Sustermans (hanging nearby) are examples of one famous artist recording another. They form part of Van Dyck's Iconography, an engraved series of portraits showing the distinguished men of his day. Van Dyck was the leading portrait painter in Flanders and England. The sitter, Pieter Brueghel the Younger (1564?1637), was the son of Pieter Brueghel the Elder, the celebrated painter of peasant scenes. The younger Brueghel continued his father's style and subject matter.
