DescriptionSheet steel tiara cut into thin bands and circular shaped “leaves.” Top surfaces of the bands and leaves are painted a light green color through a powder coating method. The edges of the leaves have a series of closely spaced saw cuts perpendicular to the edge. These cuts are the width of a very thin saw blade. The edges of the leaves have been beveled and are not painted. The piece is inscribed on the back of one of the leaves “Mirjam Hiller 2015.”Gallery Label
Mirjam Hiller's tiara takes the form of an abstracted vine with entwined layers of neon leaves. Hiller laboriously saws complex patterns from a single sheet of stainless steel (see design at right). She does not use traditional methods of soldering or joining in her jewelry. Rather, she bends and folds the metal to secure the work together.
