DescriptionMultiple overlapping exposures printed as one long panoramic image. Images depict a nude female figure in narrow segmented frames; the images range from details of her face to full length body shots.Gallery LabelBarbara Blondeau described her movement studies as “controlled accidents” because, despite their highly choreographed execution, she never knew how they would turn out. To create these works, Blondeau held open the shutter on her camera to constantly record images across the entire roll of film. Blondeau fitted the inside of the camera with a thin slit mask to further fragment the final images.
Her student Karen Bamonte, who modeled for these photographs, recalled “the outcome was like a miracle well before all of our over-the-top technological wizardry … Not that she had a choice at the time, but I feel certain that she would decide that ‘less is more.’”
