DescriptionImage of a woman seated next to a young girl. The girl is wearing an unadorned short-sleeved dress. The woman is wearing a dress, dark shawl, and hat with large bow tied under her chin. Their cheeks are tinted with a rosy hue and their jewelry is embellished with gold. This quarter plate daguerreotype is housed in a decorative brass mat with rounded corners inside a traditional decorative paper covered wooden case with a metal clasp and gold embellishments and a burgundy velvet liner.Published ReferencesPeter Palmquist, "Robert Vance: Pioneer in Western Landscape Photography," American West (September/October 1981): 22-27; Peter E.
