DescriptionGlobular form with tall, flaring top. Flesh-colored pottery in biscuit stage decorated in sgraffito with four nude women seen from the rear, their buttocks on the shoulder of the vase. Inscribed on inner rim "Vallauris Mai 50" and stamped "Empreinte Originale de Picasso (10)". White slip between figures on exterior.Gallery LabelPablo Picasso drew his undulating female forms to echo the shape of this curvaceous vase. It was made in collaboration with Madoura Pottery at Vallauris in the south of France. The Pottery’s owners, Georges and Suzanne Ramié, typically fashioned the bowls, pitchers, and vases upon which Picasso drew or painted with clay slips and glazes. This vase was conceived in 1950 and executed in an edition of 25.
