This press release announced Wrapped Walk Ways to the world. Summarizing the project by the numbers, the release details the complexity of the unprecedented endeavor. For two weeks in October 1978, people came to Kansas City from around the globe to experience Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s self-financed vision.

Christo later shared with a biographer that Wrapped Walk Ways remained among his favorite projects. It was one that would not have taken place without an invitation from the Contemporary Art Society, a group affiliated with the museum then known as The Nelson Gallery with members who are still influential collectors of art in Kansas City today.
