DescriptionThis is a bolt of soft asa fabric dyed with indigo. Both asa and indigo were sourced in Japan. Matsubara Nobuo dyed the fabric with nagaita chūgata (long board, middle[-sized] stencil) method, which refers to the long board measuring over six meters and middle-sized stencils. The artist used a stencil with heaving wave pattern made by a stencil maker in Ise, Japan.Provenance
