In 1980, Dow began a project to photograph major league baseball stadiums across the United States. He took this photograph of Royals Stadium in 1982, a decade before the expansive renovations that added seating, clubhouses, a restaurant, a jumbotron, and changed the seat colors from orange to blue. It was renamed Kauffman Stadium in 1993.

Dow photographed all of the baseball stadiums when empty, to better emphasize their unique architecture. Here, he focuses on the back of the scoreboard, with its signature twelve-story coroneted crest, to center the clean, symmetrical curves of the tiered seating behind it.
