DescriptionImage of a divided desert landscape leading to two smooth boulders which are flanked by tall rock formations.Gallery Label"My photography has always provided me with an opportunity to open myself up and see the world all around me. Most of all, photography makes me look within." —Laura Aguilar
Working against traditional Western notions of beauty and the absence of brown and bigger bodies in art and portraiture, Laura Aguilar’s self-portraits are foundational images in LGBTQ Latinx photography. In Grounded #106, her folded body echoes the rocky forms of the desert landscape, inviting us to explore the contours, creases, and fissures present on both surfaces.
