DescriptionFour photographs mounted horizontally on a single mount. Each image is of a sand dollar held in the palm of a hand. When viewing the images from left to right, the sand dollar appears smaller and the hand appears larger.Gallery LabelMichel Szulc Krzyzanowski uses sequential imagery to demonstrate how photographic "reality" varies relative to time and place. In this sequence, he plays with scale and proximity to invert our expectations. While the artist’s hand appears to grow as it approaches the camera, the sand dollar he holds seems to maintain its size. This clever maneuver creates the illusion that the sand dollar is shrinking, when in fact the artist is holding different sand dollars from frame to frame.
