The women met in photography classes at the German Bauhaus art school between 1929 and 1933. Their commercial work adapts the Bauhaus celebration of a machine-age aesthetic to design principles. This advertisement, for example, uses a silhouette and a hairpiece rather than an actual model to sell the product.
