Working in Berlin under the name of their commercial studio ringl + pit, Grete Stern and Ellen Auerbach made this advertisement for Komol (a hair dye). The women met in photography classes at the German Bauhaus art school between 1929 and 1933. Their commercial work adapts the Bauhaus celebration of a machine-age aesthetic to design principles. This advertisement, for example, uses a silhouette and a hairpiece rather than an actual model to sell the product.
