DescriptionImage of a painting of a child with eyes closed, head bowed, and hands clasped together as if praying.Gallery Label

This image of a young girl, her head bowed in prayer, was the right-hand panel of a Sunday School sign in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Dow recalls the fascinating mix of local culture, tourism, and natural beauty he discovered along this route: “US 62 is as pretty a highway as can be found in and around Eureka Springs. In the 1970s, signs like this one appeared right next to images of curvaceous bathing beauties outside hideaway motels. All this was backed up by rolling hills, rocky crags, and bountiful green everywhere.”
