DescriptionImage of an abandoned truck stop with a weathered sign and concrete posts with flaking paint. In the background is a domed building constructed of corrugated metal panels.Gallery Label
Often, Dow pictured establishments that were barely hanging on or completely shuttered. This view of an abandoned truck stop along US 61 was located in an unincorporated community named Number Nine in the Mississippi delta in Arkansas. The site appears as a broken assemblage of concrete slabs, defunct light fixtures, and a rusted metal sign. A ruin in desolate surroundings, devoid of people or new development, the site conveys a palpable sense of loss.
