DescriptionVertically oriented image of a left hand - appears to be a double exposure with thumb extending out in one captured image. The hand is placed palm up with the fingers nestled between strips of wood; intersecting rulers measure the length and width.Exhibition HistoryRotation 26. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, March 29, 2019- August 25, 2019, no cat.
Born in Japan, Kenji Nakahashi lived as a freelance photographer in New York City, making work that might be characterized as light-hearted conceptualism—a combination of humor and a precise, quasi-scientific methodology. Fascinated by the nature and proportions of the body, Nakahashi found artistic inspiration in the most immediate and personal observations.
Gift of anonymous donor to The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, 2018.
