In style, Untitled belongs to Louise Nevelson's totemic and columnar works. Its striking verticality is an assertion of being, singularity and presence in the world. But for Nevelson, nothing in the world exists apart from the whole: "Every piece that I make becomes a very living thing to me. When I work I'm not searching for perfection. I'm searching for life."
