DescriptionAerial image of old farm house in middle of field with tall grass waving in the breeze and barren trees scattered. There are small holes in the roof of the house and the walls of the screened-in porch are painted bright yellow. A wooden fence surrounds the home and a metal tower appears near the right edge of the image. A narrow band of snow stretches across the flat landscape behind.Exhibition HistoryRotation 27. The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, MO, August 23, 2019–February 2, 2020, no cat.
In his series Dirt Meridian, Andrew Moore photographed places along the U.S. section of the 100th Meridian. This historically significant line of longitude extends from North Dakota through Texas. The 100th Meridian has long been considered the climatic divide between the humid east and arid west. Flying in a plane at low altitude, Moore explored fracking zones, drought-stricken farms, and never-ending acres of ranch land. He attempts to capture “the severe magnificence of the…vast and sublime emptiness” in America’s Midwest.
