Elisabeth Hase is a recent art-historical "discovery," whose work has only recently left family hands to begin to filter out into major collections. Born in Germany, Hase began her artistic studies in 1924 at the Art Academy in Frankfurt. She was original in her approach to the self-portrait, employing both fact and fiction to suggest a variety of potential narratives.
