DescriptionImage of a man and woman standing next to one another looking towards something happening in the distance. Two blurry figures appear in the foreground; one looks up towards the camera.Gallery LabelRoger Mayne’s photograph of a protest meeting in Trafalgar Square, London, brings us strikingly close to four spectators. The impact of this picture comes from its size, as Mayne printed relatively large photographs for the period. Though the subject of this protest is unknown, the political moment in England was charged. Between 1960 and 1961 Mayne photographed anti-nuclear bomb, anti-Apartheid, and anti-Vietnam demonstrations in Trafalgar Square.
